Lover White - Innocent White
next,
I would like to talk about
the background and thoughts
behind the color "innocent white"
in the works I create.
When you think of Yoshida, you think of white.
This is the white that has spread that image.
Since the most pieces use this white,
there are so many variations that they can't all fit in the picture.
Last time, I explained "adult black."
This white was created in contrast to it.
The characteristic of this white is that colors seep into the crackle.
It is a white that changes and grows with use.
A white that becomes uniquely yours
as you walk alongside your beloved.
From that image, the name was born.
That is "Lover's White."
White that takes on your color.
Please also enjoy the changing scenery of the pottery
as one of its pleasures.
Not only the color, but the smooth texture is also a key point. Please pick it up and try rubbing your cheek against it. Because it is so smooth, plastic wrap for storage does not stick easily.
What is crazing (kannyu)?
Ceramics are formed by adding water to clay to increase its plasticity, then dried, and hardened by firing at high temperatures. During the cooling and hardening process after firing, due to the difference in shrinkage rates between the body and the glaze, the glaze
hardens with cracks, creating a "crazed" effect.
The pattern and size of the cracks also vary depending on the compatibility of the materials. Some colors make the cracks more noticeable, while others make them less so. After kiln firing, a high-pitched "ping" sound can sometimes be heard, and some pieces show a change in appearance as the crazing develops.

NOTE
At first, when you soak the pottery in water,
a pattern of cracks will appear on the surface.
This is not a problem, it's a natural landscape that was intended.
Besides, I use the glaze with the crackle pattern.
It is always amazing to see how the patterns grow with your daily use.
Then you become the creator of your own plate.
