There's a saying:
"Take only photos, Leave only footprints."
Perhaps people want to leave some kind of
footprint of their journey.

I work in what's called the world of handcrafts,
making things by hand.
Kneading clay, rolling it out, and shaping it.
In that process, the marks left by moving hands emerge.
Not handprints, nor fingerprints,
but the traces of the hand's and fingers' movement lines.

I believe that because of the tea ceremony,
such movements were likened to beauty,
and embellished as potter's wheel marks,
and the flow of glaze as a landscape.

I am usually conscious of not applying too much of this variation
to most of the things I make.
I know that adding movement gives a sense of uniqueness,
a "one-of-a-kind" feel.

However, as a maker,
is it something to boast about
that "this can only be made once"?

Imagine a soccer player who is good at delivering crosses with their right foot
from the left side.
There's no way they can only do it once.
They want to deliver as many accurate crosses as possible to the front of the goal.

With all these thoughts in mind,
this flowing bowl is a piece
where I deliberately aimed for some glaze flow.

The movements of the hands reveal the landscape of craftsmanship; a design envisioned before work begins achieves beauty through the very motion of the hands that bring it to life.
